Home Community KHS’s Match-a-thon Adoption Event, Oct. 17-19

Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is will be hosting a Mega Match-a-thon Adoption Event, held October 17-19, 2014, in partnership with the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). Kitsap Humane Society goal is to find loving homes for 111 animals during the three day event! Hundreds of pets of all ages, breeds and personalities will be available for adoption.

Kitsap Humane Society will join other shelters across the country to offer reduced adoption fees and gifts with adoptions as part of this national adoption weekend.

During the three-day event, cats over six months of age will have reduced adoption fees of $1.11; Kittens will be reduced to $100, and you can adopt two kittens for the price of one! Dogs that have been at the shelter for longer than two months will have a “Pick Your Price” adoption fee. All adopters will receive a complimentary collar and engraved ID tag with their adoption!

Many of the animals available for adoption were rescued from overcrowded shelters by Kitsap Humane Society’s life-saving Rescue Transfer Program. With the community’s support, Kitsap Humane Society aims to “empty the shelter” as a result of the event, so that there will be space to rescue and save even more at-risk animals.

The ASPCA® has provided grant funds to Kitsap Humane Society and many other shelters across the country to support large-scale adoption events in an effort to save lives of shelter animals. By partnering with the ASPCA, Kitsap Humane Society hopes to raise community awareness about this great event and get even more animals into loving homes.

As in years past, the formal event has already sold out and attendees are looking forward to participating in the live and silent auctions. Highlights of this year’s live auction include assisting Dr. Jen Stonequist, Director of Shelter Medicine, for a day. The winner will be able to shadow Dr. Stonequist for a day and gain insight in the inner workings of shelter medicine. Also up for bid is participating in a life-saving rescue mission with Natalie Smith, Director or Animal Welfare. The highest bidder will accompany Natalie to one of Kitsap Humane Society’s partner shelters and assist in our highly successful transfer program, bringing at-risk dogs and cats back to Kitsap to be adopted.
